Kwa Falls

2:22 AM

Hi Guys!!

I'm really excited to be sharing this post with you.
Last week, my friends and I visited Kwa Falls. This is my first time visiting a waterfall and it is located at Akampka Local Government, Cross River State.
It is about an hours drive from Calabar where I am serving and the roads were surprisingly good. I went with some of my calabar based friends, there were three cars and 13 of us.

The road is pretty straight foward and the locals were also ready to help with directions.
On arrival we had heard that we would have to pay an entrance fee of about 1000 naira but luckily my friends speak the local dialect and we ended up paying 200naira per head. awesome!

The hike down to the water area is known to have over 250 steps so we geared up and proceeded with our bottles of water. Unfortunately, before we could get to the end of the road we were met with water. Apparently because it had been raining, the water had risen and covered the area where people would usually stay to admire the waterfall. It had covered the rocks and even most of the steps. We were a bit disappointed so we just took a few pictures and went back up to have our picnic.

My friend Edisemi is from Bayelsa state, she came for the water and she was not going to be happy till she found some. So she went to explore on her own and actually found the source of the waterfall and it was absolutely beautiful.
The path we found is not included in the tour because it is extremely dangerous, I repeat EXTREMELY DANGEROUS! There is no route to the water so we had to take off our shoes, the rocks were really slippery and we had to hold on to branches to guide us through. (i kind of felt like a mini tarzan lol)
Only four of us were brave enough to go close, the rest watched from a distance. I'm sure the man in charge wouldn't have let us go if he saw us but you know YOLO lol!

I am usually fascinated by beaches but this here is something else, God is truly wonderful! I was too excited and if you follow me on snapchat you would know I was just joyfully shrieking the whole time.
I slipped and fell at some point to show you how slippery the rocks were but I was determined to go close so I didn't feel it till I got home.

It is very sad how the Cross River State Government isn't maximizing the potential of this wonderful place. There should be a resort there, there should be more promotion, people should be talking about this place, it's beautiful!

So in conclusion, you all need to visit Kwa falls, but just go through the regular path, DO NOT go looking where you are not supposed to like me and my friends. It is very dangerous, before God forbid something happens and then you'll say you saw it on Mide's blog. Abeg ooo!!

I can't wait to share the rest of my adventures with you all, till next time, take care.

  5. Yaaay, so glad you guys went. You didn't say who inspired you to go though :( Lol. Glad you all had a nice time, it is a realy an unforgettable adventure and yes your are so right about the government not taking full advantage of the falls. It's sad. There are two other waterfalls in Crossriver also that have not been maximized, Agbokim waterfalls and also Obudu waterfalls. In the nearest future, positive change in the field of tourism will come, I know it. Great work dear. Read about my own adventure there http://www.socialprefect.net/calabar-diaries-day-4-slave-history-museum-kwa-waterfalls-life-saving-adventure-tips/
